Goodbye Palermo

A giant shift is about to happen.

After a whole lot of years working with an amazing staff and community, I am about to change school districts.

I am about to leave room 1 and the Palermo Bulldogs.
I am leaving yard duty on Mondays over by the tables.
I am leaving three blocks of English/Language Arts.
I am leaving a school with a Computer Science curriculum
and 1:1 Chromebooks.

I am leaving a team of amazing teachers! Teachers who have taught me things and learned from me and embraced me and put up with my adventurous ideas. Teachers who have become my friends.

I am leaving administrators who care about me and have my back.
One administrator in particular who gives me feedback and assistance and friendship every single day. Andee Farrar is my carpool buddy and my #1 collaborator.

I am leaving students who work hard and play hard.
They grow and change right before my eyes! Some of them come back year after year to show me how they continue growing.
I will miss every single one of them.

I am leaving everything I have known for about a decade.
Thank you to everyone who has played a part in my growth and learning in the last ten years.

*********

I am going to Chico Unified School District.
I will be teaching 8th grade English and Yearbook at
Chico Junior High School.

I'll be close to home and closer to my daughter
who is also in middle school.
My fiance works for the same school district. :-)

I have met some of the teachers, and everyone seems friendly and helpful. The administrators are well-liked among the people I have spoken with, of which there are many.

There is so much I will have to learn to be successful in a bigger school district. I will have to learn new policies and procedures. I will have to learn hundreds of new names! I will learn new curriculum and new strategies to teach it.

I will have to start from scratch with my alternative seating arrangements and creating an inviting and creative educational environment.

I am scared.

If there is a lesson that I want to impart here, it is that one can be really scared-- terrified even-- and do the right thing anyway.

I am excited to embark on a new adventure. I embrace the challenges ahead of me and celebrate the new relationships I get to build.

I hope you will all continue to read my blog and comment on the topics that interest you. Stay connected to the global educational community. Continue to demonstrate good digital citizenship. Leave a digital footprint to be proud of.

I am proud of you, and I will miss you.

Ms. Davis

2 Truths and a Lie

  1. When I was 2 years old I was sometimes a mustard freak, I used to take a bottle of mustard and chug it all down.  Although, it was really sour.
  2. When I was at the Palermo park I was playing basketball with my dad and I fell and skinned my knee. It wasn’t all that bad.
  3. When I turned 5, I was watching Dora like it was nothing. After a couple of years I have been learning a lot of spanish, but now I do not watch it anymore because I grew up and stopped watching all the tv shows for little children.
